I’m going to build a geography newsletter empire and I want you to join me!
Well you kind of already are because you’re already here receiving this, but I want you to help me grow it into something truly special and cool.
Basically, without doing much, I’ve managed to amass somewhere around 2,000 of you here. That’s a very respectable number and I’m honored so many of you signed up to essentially just get a weekly podcast emailed to you. But it’s WAY under-utilizing what could actually be a really fun place to learn about the world and see what I’m up to as I create all kinds of geography content. As such, I’ve rebranded the Geography Is Everything Substack to just… well me!
So starting today (but really next week) I’m going to shift this Substack into high gear and really push to get it to the next level. That means my first target it to grow this newsletter to 10,000 subscribers by the end of the year. And to do this, I’ll be creating a lot of content every week.
For starters, through the end of summer, I’m committing to writing three articles about the world every single week. These could be tiny articles with just a little “Today I Learned!” fun fact, or more thought provoking, research stuff or just wonky opinion pieces. I’m not really sure. All I know is that there will be three of them every week and they’ll be steeped in the thing I know and love best: Geography!
But more than that! I’ll also be uploading my Geography By Geoff YouTube videos, Around The World With Geoff podcast, AND Geography Is Everything podcast here so you can watch and listen directly through Substack. These will be without any ads (though they may have sponsorships injected in them) and will be available totally free! I don’t know how long I’ll do this. If it seems like people really enjoy the videos here, I’ll keep doing it. If not, I’ll stop.
These first few weeks are going to be HIGHLY exploratory. I’m going to try and figure out what works best, what doesn’t, and, most importantly, what people want from a newsletter that’s mostly about geography. There will be pitfalls. Somethings features will be added, others taken away. It all depends really.
Finally, there’s no paywalls going up on this newsletter. I’ve tried that before here… didn’t like it. I tried it with Patreon… didn’t like it. So I don’t know if I’ll ever put a paywall up. What I can say is that I’ve gotten plenty of paying subscribers before but it just seems exclusionary. And geography belongs to all of us.
So here’s where I need your help! There are close to 2,000 of you on this newsletter. Which is great! But as I get going, I’ll want you to help me recruit others. If I write an article you particularly enjoyed? Share it! Think one of your friends will enjoy my content… send em the link! And most importantly if you want something specific: tell me!
This is a new era for my relationship with Substack and I don’t intend to let it not be a raging success this time.
First new bit of content lands Monday morning so enjoy your last weekend with a relatively empty inbox! 😅
Exciting times. Good luck!
Looking forward to it, you've got incredible content!
